Crime-Smasher (Blue Comet)
(Blue Comet, 1987)
™ and ©1987 Dann and Roy Thomas, and Craig A. Stormon
Dann and Roy Thomas (Invaders, Jonni Thunder a.k.a. Thunderbolt, All-Star Squadron) continue to mine the spirit of the Golden Age of Comics in this black-and-white title set in the late 1930s from Blue Comet Press. Part Milton Caniff’s Terry and the Pirates and part Fawcett Publications’ Spy Smasher, Shanghai smuggler Eliot Sloan’s adventures as Crime-Smasher begin when his twin brother Jake is brutally murdered, but everyone thinks it was the less-than-reputable Eliot who was killed; soon Eliot assumes his brother’s identity and sets out to avenge Jake’s murder. The artwork is somewhat amateurish and murky, but the story is excellent—par for the course for the husband-and-wife team of Roy and Dann Thomas.
