Triple-X Cinema: A Cartoon History

    (Re-Visionary, 1997-1998)
™ and ©1997 Re-Visionary Press

This ambitious effort to chronicle the history of the adult film industry straddles a fine line between a factual, impartial account and an exploitive, lascivious exercise in erotic art. Although pictures of the stars would be necessary in any work of this kind, a comic that repeatedly depicts the same actions, albeit by different individuals, reveals its more likely motive. To the writers’ credit (Jay Allen Sanford and Bill Margold), there is no attempt to whitewash the more sordid aspects of individual life-styles. Drug abuse, suicide, AIDS and issues of self-worth that plague the stars are addressed as readily as the hypocrisy of the elected officials and protestors who harass them. The outside edge of each page contains a timeline highlighting events significant to the porn industry, beginning with the First Amendment in 1791, through the release of Deep Throat in 1972, and on to the death of John Holmes.

Like its subject matter, this title is definitely not for children. This book is a collection of the original three-issue series and additionally includes several photos and original print ads.
