Alley Oop (Argo)
(Argo, 1955-1956)
™ and © Argo
After Dell and Standard took a stab at publishing the adventures of V.T. Hamlin’s perennial caveman, Argo went ahead and took a turn publishing more strip reprints. Oop first appeared in newspapers on August 7, 1933 and the strip chronicled life in the land of Moo. Hamlin continued on with the strip until 1973, long after this comic book appeared. Hamlin’s assistant Dave Graue debuted with the strip in 1947 and took over until 1991, when Jack Bender assumed the role. The character was also the subject of a 1960 hit record by the Hollywood Argyles.
