Tales From Fish Camp
(AiT/Planet Lar, 2004)
™ and © 2004 Danielle Henderson
This short book about the life and times of a city girl (author Danielle Henderson) spending a summer in an Alaskan fishing camp is both entertaining and educational. Reading mostly like a series of journal entries from a six month tour of duty in a very active and busy fishing town, the book also is reminiscent of a travelogue. Detailing her squalid living quarters, the interesting characters that she meets in the camp (a number of whom are ex-convicts), and the valuable life experience she gained from the job, the reader gets to experience something that most of us will never venture into. Henderson’s work has the natural language and cadence of a long–time writer. Recommended for fans of Adreinne Tomine’s (Scrapbook) or Craig Thompson’s (Blankets) works.
