World’s Finest: Our Worlds at War

    (DC, 2001)
™ and ©2001 DC Comics

This epilogue to the sweeping “Worlds at War” crossover event has an apt title: “Requiem.” Here, all of earth’s heroes pick up the pieces in the wake of one of the most devastating conflicts ever to strike the DC universe. Superman is the main character of this tale and drawn by a host of guest artists. We watch as the Man of Steel assesses the damage done to his adoptive home world, and the people who live on it. There are funerals and goodbyes aplenty here—all are shocking and touching in their own way, some are final, some are not. The narrative is juxtaposed against the farewell speech of General Macarthur, a fitting speech to quote, since this elegiac issue marks the farewell to the entire storyline, and sets the feet of DC’s heroes firmly on a new path to the future. One handy extra: in the back of the book, you’ll find a concise, one-page index to the complete Worlds at War storyline.
