Scott Pilgrim

Twenty-three-year-old Canadian, Scott Pilgrim, is dating a 17-year-old high-school girl, playing guitar in a bad rock band, and free-loading off his gay friend, Wallace, for a place to live. This is not an ideal existence but Scott is content. Then a chance encounter with an edgy, roller-blading delivery girl named Ramona Flowers disrupts his comfortable status quo. Ramona’s aloof persona increases Scott’s obsession until the various pieces of his life begin to intersect. Add to that the baggage of Ramona’s seven evil ex-boyfriends and Scott’s “precious little life” becomes inexorably altered.

This quirky digest-sized manga-esque book is funny and enthralling in an unconventional manner. Artist–writer, Bryan Lee O’Malley has a good ear for dialogue and since he is also a musician living in Canada, one has to wonder how much of this work is autobiographical.
