It’s the future, and the Earth itself seems to be dying. Its seas are fouled with toxic waste, and the skies are so polluted that merely seeing the stars at night becomes something of a minor miracle.

But even in this death, signs of a strange new life are emerging. Ecologist Thomas Valis noted rapid mutations in the sea life he studied, and at the same time he claimed to be able to actually communicate with the animals. His studies were suddenly ended, however, when an earthquake destroyed the Greenpeace station where he was headquartered. Valis was caught out at sea when the resulting tidal wave struck. His craft was destroyed and he washed up on a lonely beach. There he discovered his own brother—long thought dead—creating a race of supermen by genetic engineering. And in turn, his brother discovered a second, sentient life growing within Thomas…
