Sponsored by the Coca Cola Company, Golden Legacy is a biography series that explores true historical adventures of important figures in black history. Its purpose was to boost the pride and self-esteem of black youths of the ‘60s. Each issue includes a main feature story of a black hero or heroine, followed by pin-ups of other blacks important to that era. Obviously a labor of love for its creators, this book was lauded by many institutions of its time, including official kudos from the NAACP, the New York City Board of Education, and the National Urban League. The stories covered such luminaries as Harriet Tubman, Crispus Attucks, and Benjamin Banneker, among others.
