Swiss artist Alex Baladi tells a story of regret and madness. In modern day Geneva, young Eva shares an apartment with a nameless roommate who still moons over her long–lost boyfriend. One day she finds a torn copy of Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein in the street and gives it to her companion, who happily details the history of the book and the plight of the monster within it. After a series of nightmares, Eva starts to see the monster in her waking hours—partly as a reflection, partly as warning. But this is gentle compared to the treatment of her roommate, whose unspoken problems spiral her into a terrible fate. Baladi’s unpopulated (but not sterile) cityscapes expresses the soullessness that presses on the inhabitants of the modern city.
