Inspired by many of Harlan Ellison’s stories, including “I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream,” Grey takes place in a dismal world where massive computers have taken over the normal running of society, and consider humanity an unnecessary blight. Human society has broken down. People have to pay for citizenship and only a few can easily pay the price. The easiest way to accumulate the wealth necessary to climb the ladder is by joining the Troopers. It’s also the most deadly.

Grey was driven to join the Troopers when his lover died on patrol. Now he resolves to get his citizenship. Even if he disobeys the orders of the team, his personal safety comes first. They call him Grey Death, because he scores more kills against the computer armies than anyone else and is the sole survivor of many of the missions. Perhaps too many missions…
