The Evolution Comics title New Frontiers truly does live up to its tagline of being a “comic for the highly evolved.” While the black and white artwork can be considered “cartoony” and amateurish, the mission of developing highly intelligent yet equally entertaining stories is one that is more than accomplished. With each issue splitting its pages between Action Master and Green Ghost and Lotus, the book puts a new spin on the tired super-hero genre.

Action Master and his work-for-hire teammates at Action Master, Inc. use their alien induced powers to help those in need—much like a super-powered A-Team. Applying an X-Files-type approach to storytelling, the serial tackles such weighty issues as prejudice, drug abuse and top-secret government conspiracies. Green Ghost and Lotus, on the other hand, provide a more lighthearted diversion. The good-looking, Green Ghost—while extremely powerful—lacks the brains necessary to become a well-respected crime fighter. Enter his sidekick/coach Lotus—the real brains of the operation. This unique twist on the super-hero genre provides for intelligent reading, lots of laughs and hours of enjoyment.
