Pain. Fear. Irony. Despair. Death. The Crow may be the ultimate comic about loss. It’s James O’Barr’s incredibly intense tale of about having it all—and having it torn away from you.

It’s about a couple named Eric and Shelley, two people who were romantically and completely in love. They were to be married, but had the bad fortune to have their car break down at the wrong place and at the wrong time. A band of wilding punks came upon them and shot Eric in the head, then brutalized and killed Shelley. In his final moments, however, Eric saw a crow…a crow who somehow ferried his soul back from death to allow him his revenge.

One of the rare comics that was successfully translated to the silver screen, the film itself was marked by the tragic accidental death of star Brandon Lee, son of Bruce Lee.
