X-Man

In early 1995, Marvel launched a series of alternate X-Men titles as part of an “Age of Apocalypse” storyline. The story began in a reality where Professor X had been killed, and thus had never been able to train the group of young mutants to become the X-Men. In the years that followed, a villainous mutant named Apocalypse had gathered his fellow mutants to become the rulers of North America, and had launched murderous “culls” of the humans that remained.

X-Man is the story of a mutant named Nathan—better known in this reality as Cable—who leads a band of mutants in a challenge to Apocalypse’s rule. His crew, which includes several who would otherwise have become notable X-Men villains, fought to stop Apocalypse from mass-murdering both humans and mutants. Remarkably, when the fight was won, Nate actually crossed over into the timestream which today’s X-Men occupy.
