Boffo in Hell
(Neatly Chiseled Features, 1995)
™ and ©1995 Joe Martin
Mr. Boffo and his wonder dog, Weederman, have been entertaining newspaper strip fans for many years. In that time, “hell jokes” had been slowly creeping into the strip like a virus. In 1995 Mr. Boffo’s creator, Joe Martin decided to gather the various “Boffo in Hell” strips, along with new material, into a comic book-length collection.
In this comic book debut, the lovable fat man Mr. Boffo and his dog are transformed into heroes that save a town from three mass-murderers. They receive their power from a ring that was sent to Earth by a philandering alien god. Mr. Boffo and Weederman believe they’ve finally hit the big time and start planning for a future as masked heroes. There is only one problem: the ring’s owner has been forgiven by his wife on the condition that he retrieve the ring—and kill anyone who touched it. Meanwhile, the three dead killers go to Hell and cause the Devil to wish that he’d picked a different profession.
