Mean Machine is a deluxe format one-shot from Fleetway/Quality, famous for their reprints of England’s 2000 A.D. comic series. In Mean Machine, the reader is allowed to take an interesting trip with one of Mega-City One’s most feared and hated criminals.

Mean Machine is a unique comic character in that his behavior can be regulated by the dial which sits on his chrome-plated forehead. The dial has four settings. One would cause Mean Machine to act surly. Two causes him to get mean. Things really heat up when he is set to three and four: vicious and brutal. A hypnotist, who bears a remarkably close resemblance to Curly of “the Three Stooges,” succeeds in briefly erasing Mean Machine’s tough attitude in an attempt to rehabilitate him. Of course, the plan fails and Judge Dredd is charged with Mean Machine’s capture.
