Fright Night

An adaptation of the film “Fright Night” runs through the first three issues of this twenty-two-issue series from Now Comics. High school student Charley Brewster discovers that his new next-door neighbor is a vampire, and he and his friends enlist the aid of B-grade horror movie actor Peter Vincent, “the Great Vampire Killer,” to expose the mysterious Jerry Dandrige and put an end to a series of brutal killings that happen to coincide with his arrival in town. After the movie adaptation concludes, the series continues with more typical horror movie fare. Like the film that inspired it, Fright Night operates on a campy, tongue-in-cheek level and manages to have some fun with the horror genre. While it’s certainly not of the quality of EC’s Tales from the Crypt and The Haunt of Fear—or even DC’s House of Mystery and House of Secrets—Fright Night is an entertaining little horror fix for fans of such things.
