We Were Very Maakies

The creator of the Sock Monkey and his sidekick Mr. Crow also has syndicated a weekly comic strip that features more depraved versions of his lead characters. This second hardcover features the past two years in an “extended” format. In Maakies, the runty Uncle Gabby and single–minded Drinky Crow drown themselves in dastardly deeds on the high seas and wherever else sophomoric mischief is allowed.

Packing his panels with profane “non–PC” humor that elicits guffaws despite readers’ better judgment, Millionaire gives them their money’s worth. Each self–contained strip features a running “crawl” comic at the bottom and is drawn with impressive Old World flair. In this world, no subject is too sacred for sarcasm or soliloquy, as both ape and bird gag on their excessive appetites to sate moronic impulses.

As guest artists periodically chime in with their own renditions of alcoholic and adolescent excess, bad taste never looked so good.
