Puppet Terrors

Puppet Terrors is 22 manic, color story pages. This sort of resembles Puppetmaster, if the puppets in the movie talked. This comic promises “Murder, Mayhem… No strings attached!” The recap of the puppets’ origin is not explained, but it has something to do with Santa Claus.

In this issue, Bunky and Death Row Joe kill Santa’s helpers and some of their other animated creations. It’s fun in sort of a dark and evil way. It’s hard to get behind the main characters. They’re not likable—unless the reader happens to be a psychopath who likes puppets.

Writer Jesse James Wroblewski and his artist, Eef, have talent. Eef’s pencils are solid, and his backgrounds jibe well with the puppet action. It’s amusing for what it is. However, inevitably, characters of this ilk end up going too far or regretting what they’ve done. There’s no other way to redeem them, and it’s hard to up the ante when you start with a high level of violence.
