Iron Man: Inevitable

Inevitable? Quite a come down from “invincible,” but this title has much to appreciate. At a time when the monthly Iron Man series was experiencing a sporadic publishing schedule, writer Joe Casey and artist Frazer Irving took the opportunity to bring back some of Iron Man’s classic foes, namely The Ghost, Spymaster and The Living Laser in this back-to-basics six-issue miniseries. After bargaining as Tony Stark with black marketers selling stolen technology, he returns as Iron Man to shut them down in a sting operation orchestrated by S.H.I.E.L.D. The programmable laser system that Stark purchased earlier piqued his interest for more than its weapon aspect. It is Stark’s belief that the laser system contains the consciousness of Arthur Parks, the Living Laser. Add to this scenario the revenge-minded Spymaster and industrial espionage abilities of The Ghost and threats from Iron Man’s past are… well, inevitable.
