Nightmare on Elm Street: Paranoid

    (Avatar, 2005)
™ and ©2005 New Line Productions, Inc.

Freddy Krueger, the Springwood Slasher is the supernatural killer of sleeping teenagers. At one time he was just a generic real world serial killer. He was captured and tried but released on a technicality. Not willing to accept that outcome, the citizens of Springwood burned him alive. Now he continues his killing ways by entering his victims’ dreams. If he kills them in their dreams, they will die in reality. The parents of Springwood have been using a dream suppressant, Hypnocil, on their children in an attempt to keep Freddy at bay. But supplies are running low and the next shipment will be the last for a while. It would be tragic if that delivery was interrupted.

This three issue miniseries title picks up after the Nightmare on Elm Street Special also written by Brian Pulido, (Lady Death). The teenage victims, stereotypes of high school cliques; the jock, the straight-A student, the rapper-wanna-be, are just fodder for Freddy’s increasingly brutal methods. This is an aspect of the horror genre that relies on shock and gore rather than mood and suspense.
