No Need for Tenchi! Part 12
(Viz)
™ and © Viz Communications, Inc.
While America’s hero of choice seems to be the creepoid, Japan has Tenchi Masaki: the nicest guy in the universe. He’s allowed his home to become an unofficial halfway house for E.T. unemployables and, although he comes equipped with standard alien/human hybrid super-powers, he prefers to “gentle” his enemies with the strength of his loving heart.
With its unpredictable blend of space opera, soap opera, and comedy, the comic book does a good job of approximating the anime series it’s based on—maybe too good a job. You know going into a licensed comic book, it can’t deviate much for the source material, but too often No Need for Tenchi seems a rehash of the animation. (This issue’s plot involves a villain controlling Ayeka—which is a lot like what happened to Ryoko in one episode.) Why couldn’t Tenchi and company visit America—or the moon, for that matter?
