Sgt. Rock: The Prophecy

Since the beginning of comics history, war comics have been a staple of the industry. Throughout that time, the teaming of one creator and creation has stood above the others: Sgt. Rock by Joe Kubert.

“The Prophecy” is a six-issue mini-series that gives readers a family reunion, with Joe Kubert providing story and art, plus working on the coloring. As an added bonus, this first issue features a trio of Kubert covers, by Joe and his sons, Adam and Andy.

On a secret mission, Sgt. Rock and Easy Company have parachuted into a hotly contested No Man’s Land between the German and Russian armies. Inside the chewed-up Lithuanian city of Latvia, they’ve been charged to pick up a mysterious “package” from partisans and deliver it to America. The partisans believe that this package might not only shorten the war, but win it.

Sgt. Rock explains why Easy Company was picked for this difficult job; “ ’Cause we’re good… ’cause we can be bad!” This comic is bad—in a good way.
