The Borgia Dynasty
(Heavy Metal, 2005, 2006)
™ and © 2004 Editions Albin Michel/Sefan
We sometimes believe that we live in violent times, but a review of the 15th Century reminds us just how lucky we have it. In those days death was arbitrary and random, often due to the mandate of evil, heartless men. In this time there ruled the Borgia clan, whose lives are chronicled here. Mothers separated from nursing infants, young men and women killed unnecessarily in the name of the men like Pope Innocent and his followers—these and other atrocities come through in bloody and unpleasant detail.
Drawn by Milo Manara and published by Heavy Metal, it’s no surprise that beautiful women in various states of undress show up every few pages. This grisly historical epic is adapted by Alexandro Jodorowski.
