Bomb Queen

The Bomb Queen rules Newport City. She fills the airwaves with sadistic programming, allows webcams in her bathroom and blows up anyone who gets on her bad side, creating a home for chaos and depravity. This villain has the mayor in the palm of her hand, but a new politician wants to clean up the city for good. Can he possibly make it to election day in one piece, or will the Bomb Queen continue to get her way? And where’s a good super-hero when you need one?

From the Comics Buyer’s Guide:

The humorous warning on the back of the book is utterly truthful: “Not for children (or squeamish adults).” Between all the gore (including a toddler being decapitated, as its mother holds it) and rampant nudity, Bomb Queen’s visuals make for a never-dull adventure. The dialogue supplements support this, as Robinson tells the story of Her Highness’ exploits bringing Newport City to its knees during the mayoral election.

Robinson’s humor and gift for over-the-top action make this a page-turner. Cultural references abound, from the common to the obscure—he even includes a line from the ’80s fad-film Dirty Dancing. (I didn’t mean to recognize that reference; heck, I’ve only seen the movie once, and that was nearly two decades ago.)
