When the Firstcomers came to the World of Two Moons, the humans greeted them not with friendship but with rage and murder. In the confusion, the Firstcomers were split up, some becoming the forebears of Cutter and his band of Wolfriders, and others turning to the waters for refuge. These became Mer-Elves—the Waveriders.

The Waveriders have lived in isolation for countless years, many of them without a leader. The water is both their friend and a source of mystery. The latest mystery is that of their old leader who left them generations ago but who now seems to have returned. Still, some members of the group have their doubts that the Crown that returned is the same one that left them so very long ago…
