Fusion Anthology
(Dominion, 2005)
™ and © Dominion
A mysterious glowing green orb is the single constant in a series of stories that transcend time, space and genres. From a resurrected Egyptian boy king to a band of space-faring female pirates to a professional thief, to the campy escapades of Martha Savage, (referred to as Marsha Savage in the introductory text), these are only four of the characters that comprise the daunting Dominion Universe. While the orb appears in each story, its importance to the plot varies quite a bit and sometimes seems to be a tangential afterthought.
This ambitious launch of an entirely new integrated universe comes packaged in a DVD-style plastic case. It includes a poster designed to resemble a movie poster, an eight-page supplemental flyer containing background information about some of the creators, a bookmark, other promotional material for the publisher’s other projects, and the 64-page graphic novel that is actually eight introductory vignettes of four to eight pages. The art styles contrast greatly and the teaser stories may be enough to whet the appetite of a willing reader but it is a lot of absorb and some of the typographic and layout decisions do not help.
