Hi Hi Puffy Amiyumi

    (DC, 2006)
™ and ©2006 Cartoon Network

In the mid-90s, a talent search discovered two Japanese girls named Ami and Yumi, and together they became a Japanese pop sensation on the level of The Beatles in their native country. The girls were cute, could sing, and used the same writers/producers of the popular U.S. group Jellyfish. Called Puffy in Japan, they had to change their name in the U.S. to Puffy Amiyumi to avoid confusion with popular US rapper Puff Daddy (who now goes by Diddy…go figure). Their U.S. success, while on a much milder par than Japan, spawned an animated cartoon series for Cartoon Network, of which this comic book is based. The comic is ideal for those who want to learn some basic Japanese words and phrases, and besides, it’s amusing.
