Keith Giffen and J.M. DeMatteis carry over their mix of action and humor, a writing style they refer to as “Bwah—Ha—Ha”, from DC’s Justice League to this title from BOOM! Studios.

Captain Valor, a character from Giffen and DeMatteis’ Hero Squared series, joins other classic, super–hero archetypes to deal with an invasion of pan–dimensional monsters, as well as the man who is forced into being their gateway. The humor in the issue is exemplified by the Batman doppelganger who not only is called Grim Knight (obviously a reference to Batman’s grim nature and the sobriquet of The Dark Knight), but is also actually a humorless, sword-wielding knight.
