Toxic! joined sister publication Apocalypse in 1991 as a double-threat challenge by newcomer Apocalypse Publishing to topple 2000 A.D. from the throne of British science-fiction comics. Although it ultimately did not prove up to the task, Toxic! nevertheless presented some very fine and funny stories in its short run. Included were features starring Marshal Law, a bad-news futuristic rent-a-cop with an attitude; “The Bogie Man,” a Humphrey Bogart-worshiping walking catastrophe; and Mike Fallon, the Accident Man. Mike makes his first appearance here, where we learn of how he came to engage in his violent, yet glamorous career as a hit man. Accident Man was later turned into a three-issue mini-series in the U.S., courtesy of Dark Horse.
