Dorkboy
(Dorkboy, 2006)
™ and © Dorkboy
Sadly, the most noteworthy content of this comic book is the brief introduction by Too Much Coffee Man creator Shannon Wheeler, who basically describes Dorkboy’s contents by using such adjectives as “nice,” “gentle,” and “polite.”
There’s nothing wrong with that. Nice is good, even though, in this case, it makes for a series of cute, if unremarkable, stories. Despite his unflattering name, Damian Willcox’s character is a likeable guy with childlike innocence who has built a tiny robot, appropriately named Dorkbot, to serve as his crime-fighting sidekick. And there are a couple of stories featuring the equally likeable and innocent Satch, who has a chat with a talking fruitcake at Christmastime.
There’s also Scooterboy, who becomes president to attract girls. Like his characters, Willcox’s stories have a kind of childlike simplicity that makes them oddly charming, even if they carry no kind of weight or substance. These stories are meant to be enjoyed, by both adults and kids, simply for what they are.
