Little Gloomy
(Slave Labor, 1999-2002)
™ and ©1999 Landry Walker & Eric Jones
Gloomy is a young girl who’s afraid of just about everything—too afraid, some days, to even leave the house. And who can blame her? It’s not every little girl whose acquaintances are werewolves and Frankenstein monsters, and whose typical experiences include being abducted, hypnotized, or otherwise attacked. More often than not, though, she does go out…because staying home alone in her big old mansion is just as scary. These forays are usually the launching pad to the beginning of yet another spooky adventure that has her wishing she’d stuck to her original plan.
These tales aren’t truly spooky, though, in fact, given the generally cute, little-kid styled monsters—think “Family Circus” meets Bram Stoker—they’re actually very lighthearted. Clever, funny, and unique, it’s a charming little series of chills and jokes, through the eyes of a child in a world of monsters. Published in black-and-white by Slave Labor Graphics.
