Squadron Supreme (2nd Series)

As intentional copies of DC’s Justice League of America, the original Squadron Supreme allowed the Avengers to fight the competition without an actual cross-over. In the mid-1980’s, Mark Gruenwald used these characters to explore the grim reality, despite good intentions, of a world governed by super-powered individuals. His work paved the way for other “real world” titles like Watchmen, Kingdom Come, and The Authority.
In 2004, J. Michael Straczynski (TV’s Babylon 5, Rising Stars) gave the team new life when he completely reinvented the characters in Supreme Power. After 18 issues and a couple spin-offs, his “heroes” are finally graduating to their own title again.
In this new series, the government, and the rest of the world, learns that having super-soldiers and controlling super-soldiers are two very different things. And when someone like Hyperion decides he doesn’t want to follow orders, there’s very little anyone can do about it… except pray, of course!
