I Heart Marvel: Web of Romance

Once a thriving comic genre, romance comics have largely disappeared, except for titles which parody the concept by providing new dialogue for romance comics art à la Marvel Romance Redux. The I (Heart) Marvel event intended to give a bit of homage to the forgotten genre. Web of Romance is an amusing melding of the super-hero and romance genres featuring Spider-Man obsessing about an appropriate Valentines Day present for Mary Jane. To that end he seeks advice from Luke Cage during a battle with Dragon Man and even from the Mandrill in a truly funny bit of dialogue that transcends the standard hero/villain banter. The target audience for this title is by necessity a Spider-Man fan. The setting and situations require more than a passing knowledge of current continuity.
