Katharsis
(Americanime, 2006)
™ and © Americanime Corporation
In 1943 the Nazi war machine reconsidered fighting the Russians and the brutal Russian winter simultaneously. Instead, they partnered their eugenics program with the occult to create an invincible super-soldier code-named Blitzkrieg from a lowly German recruit. Consequently, Germany conquered the world but Blitzkrieg is a weapon that is not easily retired. Extending some kind of bizarre bands from his body that alternatively cut and crush his prey, Blitzkrieg has tuned on his former masters because he takes pleasure in killing soldiers and they are all that is left. The Americanime Corporation incongruously calls Katharsis a “Fact-Based Account of Alternate History” whatever that is. The company has a clearer understanding of its goal however, which is to use their comics as an exposure tool for an intended animated film. As their website says “comic-books/manga are essentially a fine-art version of the storyboards used in film” so one gets the sense that they don’t mind slumming in the world of comic books as long as they can cash in with movies.
