Schadenfreude!

Karl Christian is the writer and artist behind Schadenfreude, a stab at goth culture featuring total poseur Lord Byron, a mega-goth with more desperation than despair. Christian has one of the most idiosyncratic art styles in several years, something like what manga might look like had it originated in America, yet without appearing to be manga-influenced. It’s funny, and really gets its legs when Byron’s adventures stretch out a little, leading to a moment of epiphany spewed by an ailing drunk. Best enjoyed by a high-school students, only because that’s when this book’s characters and theses strike closest to true life.
