Ghost Stories

This horror anthology from Dell is not strictly a collection of ghost stories but ones dealing with the supernatural in general. Aztec idols come to life, British soldiers are saved from the Germans by a tank squad that had been blown to smithereens two days earlier. The stories are pulpy and overly dramatic, and the artwork isn’t so hot, but this comic is a blast from the past. Every bit of dialog seethes with that certain something that typifies these late sixties, early seventies independents. Though a good number of Dell’s titles from this time were based on television properties, cartoon characters, and comic strips, there are a handful that had original stories. Ghost Stories is one, but others include Combat, Espionage, and many of the Four Color Comics.
