G.I. Joe: The Hunt for Cobra Commander

This comic book is an excellent jumping-on point for longtime G.I. Joe fans and new readers. (Notice the price?) The world believes Cobra Commander is dead in the wake of the Red Shadows attack. However, General Hawk, the G.I. Joe commanding officer, does not. Hawk, who was shot and paralyzed from the waist down by Cobra Commander, enlists Spirit, the team’s resident Native American and tracker, to find him.

This story is a good exploration of Spirit’s character and abilities. He spends months tracking Cobra Commander, gathering evidence that he’s alive. But in the end, he learns too late that his family has been targeted by Cobra, falling into Cobra Commander’s trap in a cliffhanger ending.

Also included in the issue are detailed dossiers on Spirit, Hawk, and Cobra Commander. The story continues in G.I. Joe Comic Book (Vol. 2) #13.
