Kee-Fu Fighters

Kee-Fu Fighters is about a group of cute, fuzzy animals that can do martial arts. They live on the planet Keeton and are the protectors and friend of Prince Kairo. The comic book is part of a proposal for a cartoon series. In this issue, while Prince Kairo and the Kee–Fu Fighters are away on a fishing trip, the kingdom is attacked by the evil Baron.

The art is nice and has, as you might imagine, a slick animation look. T.A. Wahnish combines elements of The Phantom Menace, Yu–Gi–Oh!, Pokémon, and about a dozen other Japanese cartoons aimed at kids. They are even developing a card game. The Kee–Fu Fighters have annoying names like “Icee” (because he can make ice) and “Kool–Jay” (because he’s cool?). There should have been an explanation of why the Kee–Fu Fighters are different animals with different powers. Still, the energy of the characters combined with strong visuals could carry the series, as more of Keeton unfolds and the series finds its feet. Kee–Fu Fighters is aimed squarely at kids.
