It was only a matter of time before we got Chinese comics (in this case, specifically Taiwanese) and a love triangle, to boot. In bygone times on the mainland, the emperor of the Tang Dynasty dispatches his loyal soldier Zhong Lu to be a “seeker,” entrusted with finding his princess who was sent into hiding a decade earlier at the start of the Jin rebellion.
Meanwhile, Dr. Tang tells his feisty “sister” Zhi Li that she must return to claim her rightful title as princess. Despite his suspicions that she is an imposter, Zhong realizes she is the real deal and may be winning his heart. But Zhi is reluctant to accept the benefits of royalty, if it means separation from her principled Dr. Tang.
Although the series’ title could use some work, it hits the familiar shojo notes of unrequited love and historical fantasy. Huan draws the expected crying saucer eyes and alabaster complexions, but his faces and figures are stiff. However, female genre fans will find these Chinese romantic misunderstandings suitable soap opera.
