The Mighty Crusaders (1st Series)
(Radio, 1965-1966)
™ and ©1966 Radio Comics, Inc.
The Mighty Crusaders was Radio Comics’ super-hero team-up title, similar to Marvel’s Avengers and DC’s Justice League of America. The Mighty Crusaders were comprised of Radio’s leading super-heroes: the Comet, Black Hood, the Shield, Fly Man, and Fly Girl. They would join together to battle Inferno the Destroyer and other devious (and ridiculous) would-be world conquerors. In addition to the main story, many issues of this series would retell the origins of the team members in special backup features.
Almost two decades after the end of this 1965–1966 series, Archie would revive it, along with the individual members. Several years after that, DC would also have a go at it with its 1993 title, The Crusaders. It should be noted that DC’s Crusaders mentions “previous history” which does not match events from either of the other two series.
