This black and white quarterly from Los Angeles-based graphic novelist Jordan Crane (The Clouds Above, The Last Lonely Saturday) presents short story work and preview material for his upcoming graphic novel projects. Themes of wretchedness and loss figure prominently in the first issue and suggest a creative turn toward darker, grittier emotional tones for the artist. Working in neat, six-panel pages, Crane extracts deep feeling from his clean, economical lines.

Published on quality paper by Fantagraphics Press, Uptight dispenses with editorial comment and provides story and art on every page, including the back cover.
