Adventures of Riggin’ Bill
(Remington Morse)
™ and © Remington Morse
Not exactly a comic book, Adventures of Riggin’ Bill is a digest-sized collection of one-page strips, humorous letters, and definitions of Navy slang words. The first issue has no cover date, but the Pearl Harbor reference in the introduction places it in the 1940s. Moreover, the illustrations, especially the women’s fashions, have a distinctly 40s look. Riggin’ Bill is a goofy sailor tossed in innocuous military gags that were probably funny in WWII. Nevertheless, the dictionary of Navy slang, some of which has probably been long forgotten, has historical significance.
