Jalila (2nd Series)

In the future, terrorists attack The City of All Faiths; it’s the work of The Axes (some of whom are dressed like The Hate Monger while others favor a Snake-Eyes look), who have the very Hydra-like motto of “cut off one limb and thousands will take its place.” Prepared to stop them is the super-powered Jalila, even if she suspects her brother Khaled is secretly a member.

The first issue set-up for the series is OK, although there are weak spots, including the way Jalila’s civilian identity and profession is never given, her powers aren’t clearly defined, and after pages of worrying whether Khaled is one of the Axe terrorists, when she finally unmasks one it turns out to be someone who she knows—but we don’t.

As with most of the AK comics, the production values are top-notch and the art strong, aided nicely by well-done computer coloring, although there are a couple glitches (like the way everything in Jalila’s kitchen is the exact same shade of green).
