Comic Book Nerd

From the Comics Buyer’s Guide:

Nobody can create faux comics and magazines like Pete Von Sholly. While Crazy Hip Groovy Go-Go Way Out Monsters may appeal primarily to aficionados of old monster magazines, Comic Book Nerd is grounded in the here and now.

Von Sholly offers dead-on parodies of today’s comic-book press. These include such titles as Comic Book Meatmarket and The Comics Urinal. Even TwoMorrows’ own products are not safe, with offerings such as Scrawl! and Bagged Issue. Not even the monthly catalog is safe, as we see from Purviews.

The foibles of each publication are lovingly skewered, from Whizzer’s reasons comics are better today than in the Silver Age to The JSA and Captain Marvel fighting over the cover of Ultra Ego. CBG takes a hit in the form of Comics Buyer’s Guise. We are shown a sample consisting largely of a column called “Ask the Silver Sage.” (Hmm … sounds familiar.)

The more of the parodied items you’ve read, the more you’ll appreciate it, but there’s something for the comic-book nerd in all of us.
