Super thief Casanova Quinn is son of Cornelius Quinn, director of the super spy organization Empire. After his latest caper goes wrong, he attends the funeral of his “good” twin sister Zephyr where he’s caught between super criminals and Empire, playing one against the other until he overturns the tables on both in a completely unexpected way.
It’s classic movie and comics super-spy stuff filtered through influences as diverse (and sadly obscure) as Michael Moorcock, Jerry Cornelius, and Italian super thief Diabolik, married to the palpable paranoia of genuine spy fiction.
Casanova, in spite of himself, is a likable, if amoral, protagonist and with his angular jaw and mullet he looks like an emaciated Conan crossed with Mick Jagger; he’s certainly got an old school rock style vibe, back from when cool was uncontaminated by irony. The art is a fusion of Paul Pope and Kelly Jones and the storytelling — in a medium increasingly over-impressed with decompressed storytelling — this confection is remarkably dense (and intense), giving you much more than your meager money’s worth.
