The blood-spattered pages of this series expand and develop Clive Barker’s original interpretation of mythical creatures and their interaction with ordinary humankind. The monsters, many of which are like werewolves, have the ability to change their shape. They are known as Nightbreed and are descendants of the Tribes of the Moon. Humans are called Naturals, though some, the descendants of long-ago cross-breeding between Nightbreed and Natural, have latent powers that reveal themselves only in particular situations.

Most of the Nightbreed are harmless, having sworn off meat and hidden themselves from Naturals, who instinctively fear them. However, a few, chafe at the society and go forth to wreak havoc, resulting in many a bloody and horrific confrontation.
