Flash: The Fastest Man Alive

    (DC, 2006-2007)

Danny Bilson and Paul DeMeo, masterminds behind the Flash television show of the early ’90s, make a return engagement with The Scarlet Speedster, this time chronicling his monthly four-color adventures. Since the events of Infinite Crisis and the destruction of The Speed Force, Wally West has been missing in action, and Bart Allen has lost his powers. Despite a lack of speed, Bart nevertheless plays a significant role. He has suddenly aged four years, prompting a S.T.A.R. Labs intern to investigate his case. (Oddly, Bart is beginning to look like Wally, and the intern resembles Linda Park).

Jay Garrick is now The Fastest Man Alive, but the exciting cover image and explosive cliffhanger ending indicate that his run as the main man will probably be short-lived. The story provides background info on the various Flashes, making it a fairly good jumping-on point for new readers. However, flawed art (Jay’s speed tricks are hard to follow), muddled plotting, and unlikable characters (Bart rooms with a boorish womanizer) ruin any potential upside the issue may have had.
