Beware the Creeper

First appearing in 1968’s Showcase #73, the Creeper soon moved into this solo series. The Creeper’s true identity was Jack Ryder, a security agent. While searching for a kidnapped scientist, he was forced to don an impromptu costume and infiltrate a costume party. Once there, he located the scientist, but was stabbed by the kidnappers in the process. The scientist gave Ryder an injection which gave him super-strength, and also implanted a “molecular rearranger” in his body. This device, when triggered by a special activator attached to his wristwatch, makes the Creeper’s costume appear and disappear.

These new abilities, of course, made the Creeper a natural super-hero. Looking a bit demented in his costume, Ryder also cultivated a maniacal laugh which made him all the more terrifying to criminals. However, it also led many to consider him a criminal.
