We all know that Steve Niles (30 Days of Night) is a master of horror—gory, dark, nightmare-inducing horror. But who knew he could also write a charming, all-ages friendly comedy as well?

The Cryptics are child versions of the Creature From the Black Lagoon, Dracula, the Wolfman and Jekyll and Hyde who engage in all manner of adventures together. While not a complete departure from the horror style Niles is known for, it shows that he can excel at humor as well.
