Fevre Dream (George R.R. Martin’s…)
(Avatar, 2006)
™ and ©2006 George R.R. Martin
In this 7-page preview from Avatar, it’s explained that a group of vampires has settled in Mississippi to feed and prosper, though one of their number believes vampires and humans can coexist. It’s never really established who that is, though, since the actual comic portion of this story is pretty much about a woman getting eaten.
Seems kinda silly, really. You live in a society that encourages you to keep and breed humans as livestock, you probably shouldn’t devour all your new purchases the first day, economically speaking. But who knows the methodology of the vampire? Not Daniel Abraham, who scripts this Martin story. Rafa Lopez provides pretty art, but it kind of jars against the setting and nature of the story, a better fit for super-heroes than gothic period piece horror.
